Chase Elliott won his first-ever NASCAR All-Star Race on Wednesday at Bristol Motor Speedway and took home over one million dollars for his efforts.

Elliott took the lead after the second stage of the race, and held on to it through much of the third stage, but he did battle Ryan Blaney for a few laps during stage three.

The No. 9 car went on to dominate the 15 lap final stage, holding off Kyle Busch for the victory. Elliott led 60 of the 140 total laps. Only Blaney led more laps on Wednesday, with 72.

“There’s nothing like Bristol,” said Elliott following the win. “There’s nothing like the lights here. There’s nothing like racing here, never won here. What a race to do it, just really proud of our team tonight.”

The 2020 NASCAR All-Star Race was only the second All-Star Race to not be held in Charlotte, with Elliott’s father Bill, winning in 1986. This makes Chase and Bill the second father-son duo to win the All-Star Race, after Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr.

Elliott was able to win the race in front of a small group of spectators, as Bristol Motor Speedway did allow a small capacity crowd in for the race on Wednesday.

“I can’t believe it,” said Elliott in his post-race interview. “What a better night to have fans back than tonight.”

Elliott, his race team, and the rest of NASCAR will now turn their focus to the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 on Sunday, July 9 at Texas Motor Speedway. The race is scheduled to start at 3 P.M. ET.
