Miami Gardens, FL – The University of Miami played it’s most explosive game of the season in a 52 to 27 win over Louisville led by Jarren Williams. Williams set the single game Miami record with six touchdown passes for the day in Miami’s best performance of the season on senior day.
The Hurricanes set the tone early on offense with a seven play 92 yard drive on their first possession capped off by a DeeJay Dallas 5 yard rushing touchdown. Louisville responded immediately with a 87 yard touchdown drive of their own only to be answered back by Miami with a 67 yard Dee Wiggins touchdown. Those quick strikes were a constant theme that kept Miami looking dangerous all afternoon.
This was a Miami offense we have not seen all season, consistently pushing the ball downfield and Jarren Williams showed everyone why he deserves to be the starter moving forward. Williams finished the game 15 of 22 for 253 yards and six touchdowns. Mike Harley Jr was the beneficiary of Williams prolific game posting a six catch, 116 yard. 2 touchdown stat line on seven targets.
The defense led by seniors Shaq Quarterman and Michael Pinckney registered three sacks, 14 tackles for loss and 2 interceptions on a night where some were playing their last games at Hard Rock Stadium. Despite giving up 496 yards and 27 points the defense put the Cardinals offense in uncomfortable situations that they could not get themselves out of.
Miami now rides a three game win streak as they improve to 6-4(4-3) with a good chance of finishing the season 8-4 with FIU at Marlins Park awaiting the ‘Canes next weekend. Although a shot at the ACC championship is slim Miami has shown some promise and improvement as the season has rolled on, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
The Miami Hurricanes season has been an up and down one so far but the ‘Canes are officially bowl eligible and will be participating in bowl season this year.
