Kyle Busch Strikes The Trifecta at Richmond, Eyeing Fourth at Dega

Written by Adrian Beecher

Richmond, VA — Kyle Busch quickly moved from a 32nd place start, into the top 10 on Saturday night, at Richmond Raceway. He received perfect service in the pits all night and held off the field in NASCAR Overtime to win the 2018 Toyota Owners 400, a third straight victory for Busch.

“All these guys – everybody on this whole M&M Camry, they do a great job for me,” said Busch in victory lane post race. “I can’t say enough about Adam Stevens (crew chief) and my guys and the pit crew tonight. They won this race for us. They got us off pit road first those last two times that we came down for tires and got us where we needed to be.”

It’s the 2nd time in Busch’s career that he has pulled off a trifecta of straight wins. The last time he did it was in 2015, when he won the Cup Championship. He joins an elite group of just nine drivers since 1972 to win three races in a row more than once in their careers.

“It’s definitely cool we’ve won three in a row. We did it a couple years ago and now I don’t know if you can shoot for four in a row.”said an excited Kyle Busch.

The list of drivers that have won four races in a row consists of just eight names, all legendary, the most recent being Jimmie Johnson in 2007. For Kyle to get a 4th consecutive win, he will have to do it a Talladega Super Speedway, where the odds will be again stacked against him.

“Next week we go to Talladega. I think it’s easier to win the Power Ball than win at Talladega. We’ll give it a go anyway, see what we get.” Said Busch in his post race presser.

In 25 starts at Dega, Busch has only one win and six top five finishes. He averages a 20th place finish at the track, leading only 233 laps ever at the track. That is the 3rd least amount of laps led out of the 23 tracks that Busch has raced at in the Cup series.

Despite all that, don’t count out Kyle Busch. Anyone that can come from 32nd to 1st, the furthest anyone ever climbed the ladder for a victory at Richmond, can not be counted out.
