Rain Delays Start of Fold of Honor QuikTrip 500

Hampton, GA – “Rain, rain, go away, come another day again?” as the old kid’s tune goes. That’s the wish of the fans at Atlanta Motor Speedway, as rain has put a slight “damper” on the fun.

After a forecast of rain was well aware in the forecast, NASCAR elected on Saturday to move the original start time of 2:00 p.m. up to 1:00 p.m. for Sunday’s race. However, rain moved into the area early Sunday morning forcing NASCAR delay the start of the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

The pre-race concert with Chris Johnson, that was rescheduled on Saturday for a Sunday 10:45 a.m. start, was pushed back to 12:00 p.m. as fans filled the front stretch with a slight drizzle occurring on and off throughout.

While that was going on, NASCAR deployed their arsenal of track dryers which include 11 NASCAR Air Titans, six conventional jet-dryers, two track vacuums, two Elgin sweepers and one tractor broom.

There look’s to be a clearing between the 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. If they aren’t able to get underway then, it looks like a Monday afternoon start time. NASCAR has noted that they will get the cars on the track as soon as it is clear and Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., The Weather Channel’s radars show 0% chance of rain.

NASCAR has set driver intros for 2:30 p.m. in hopes to get the race underway today in the clear period.

We will keep you updated as we receive new information.
